How to tie the adjustable bolt feeder rig

This revolutionary rig is perfect for a range of species, but lends itself particularly well to fish like chub and roach that can be very cautious with their feeding, making them frustratingly difficult to catch at times.

The rig encompasses a hooklength with a piece of foam threaded onto it, which can be pushed into the holes in the bottom of a swimfeeder creating a bolt effect when the fish takes the bait. The foam will simply pop out when playing the fish which helps reduce the chance of a hook pull that you can experience with inline feeders.

Feeder choice

This rig works best with a maggot feeder, not just because of the holes but fish like chub will quite often shake a feeder full of maggots to get to release them. This means if you don't present your hookbait very close to the feeder it is likely to be missed by the fish.

Foam

What sets this rig apart and makes it adjustable is the small piece of foam on the hooklength. Cut a piece of foam (zig foam is normally perfect for this as it is cylindrical) and pass the hook through it and thread it up the line. This is then plugged into the holes in a swimfeeder and because the foam grips your line you can choose how long or short it is.

How to tie the rig

The rig is just as easy to tie as it is effective, it also requires very few components: A swivel, some rig foam, a feeder and a hook is all you need.

1. Thread your feeder onto the mainline, followed by a small bead, before tying on a swivel.

2. Take a hook and tie it onto your chosen hooklength material, then tie this directly to the swivel attached to the mainline. Around 6-10 inches is about perfect.

3. Take your foam and thread it onto the hooklength, you can do this with a baiting needle or by simply threading the hook through the foam.
