The famous Rapala knot is an excellent knot for attaching lures like plugs and crankbaits to your mainline. The loop the knot creates allows free movement of your lure allowing it to move to the best of its ability, which in turn will help you catch more fish.

The knot is can be a little tricky to tie the first few times but it will get easier and it is well worth leaning as there are few stronger and better knots for attaching your fishing lures.

Here is how to tie the Rapala knot

1. Tie an overhand knot in the leader, pass the tag end through the ring swivel/eye of the lure and then back through the loop.

2. Wrap the tag end three or four times up the leader and back through the loop again.

3. To complete the knot, pass the tag end through the larger of the two loops.

4. Moisten and carefully pull tight. The knot will tighten on itself to create a small loop.
