River Ribble, Preston, Lancashire

While most will fish for the Ribble’s barbel, there are also loads of chub to target. Day ticket stretches include the Tickled Trout and Ribchester.

River Foss, York, North Yorkshire

In this narrow stretch you’ll find some quality chub in the deeper holes. Trotting bread flake can be a productive tactic. York and District AS control the fishing.

New Junction Canal, Doncaster, S Yorkshire

There are some big chub here. Look for areas with overhanging trees on the far bank and chuck a waggler across.

Look for far-bank features and feed chopped worm and caster. Pole tactics are hard to beat, but be sure to use stepped-up kit.

The stretch at Twyford Farm is an iconic bit of river, and a great venue for a net of chub on the float. Try a waggler, feeding plenty of maggots.

Mickey Mouse Pool is known for its chub. The waggler is a great tactic, spraying maggots or casters and fishing on the drop.

The Dorset Stour is arguably the finest chub river in England, with fish to more than 7lb, and there’s a free stretch downstream of the road bridge in Longham.
