Wyreside Lakes, Dolphinholme, Lancs.

This fishery allows pike fishing on Wyre, Banton’s, Sunnyside 1 and Sunnyside 2 from 1st October to March 31st. There are some large pike in these lakes, which are generally targeted by carpers. Be sure to have adequate tackle, and to book fishing before arriving.

Makins Fishery, Wolvey, Warwickshire.

Lake five is a brilliant place to try for a big perch. A dozen 2lb-plus specimens are a possibility when they are having a munch! casters are a superb bait, with worms or prawns a good back-up when bites dry up. Fish halfway down the marginal slope to start, coming up it into shallow water close to the reeds later in the session.

Frisby Lakes, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

This 48-acre gravel pit holds a wide array of species, including perch to over 4lb and pike to 30lb. Mackerel deadbaits can be a winner for the latter, and you’ll also find a few zander here, which respond well to freshwater deadbaits. Book fishing through the go catch app and website.

Head to horseshoe lake for quality perch. there are lots of features to target, including attractive overhanging willows. Prawns are a relatively selective bait, but be prepared for a few carp! Feed maggots or casters to draw in the small fish, and the stripeys will surely follow.

Patshull Park Fishery, Wolverhampton, West Midlands.

The great lake is well known as a trout water, but at this time of year, it comes into its own for predator fishing. Pike to over 32lb have been caught, along with some big perch. The fishing lodge serves hot drinks and snacks.

Situated in the 320-acre allestree park, this seven-acre lake is surrounded by mature trees and holds some good pike. Day tickets available from a number of outlets.

Commercial fisheries have turned into an unexpected haven for big perch, and there are some huge stripeys at whitmore fisheries. The club canal holds some of the largest, with fish falling to casters, maggots, and worms.

Present your rig close to the island or near marginal cover on sumners pond. Pike to just under 20lb are caught every winter, with mackerel and sardine hookbaits proven winners. Coarse deadbaits and livebaits are not permitted.

The pit is awash with features, and fishing close to any cover hanging off an island will put you in with a chance of a huge perch. Fish to over 4lb are banked every season, and chopped worms and dead maggots packed inside a swimfeeder will help to draw them in. This 20-acre gravel pit is located on the wyboston lakes complex and is controlled by luton AA. There are some huge predators to target, with pike to over 30lb and zander hitting the 15lb mark. The lake is home to plenty of roach, and the predators tend to follow them as they search for food. Day tickets and annual permits are available.

This is the ideal place to land your first double-figure pike, with a good head of fish over the 10lb mark present. Rotate between mackerel and sardine deadbaits, injecting them with your favourite flavouring to make them more distinctive.
