We say...
First stocked in 2000 with 220 carp from Mark Simmonds' Heather Fisheries, the fish in Kingfisher Lake have gone from strength to strength. These originals have successfully bred and there are now believed to be about 250 carp present. Of these, about 50 to 70 are more than 20lb, with about five thirties. Most of the fish are mirrors, with a few ghosties and commons in the mix. There are some silverfish but no bream.
The owner says...
Steven Thompson said: "It's worth putting the bait in and fishing PVA bags with a scattering of freebies over the top. Pellets and corn do well, but it's mainly boilies that most people use. A lot of Mainline Cell and Sticky boilies go in.
"In terms of colours, little white, pink and red pop-ups do well, and the fish comoe to both bottom baits and pop-ups in the summer. It's not considered a good surface water, as the water is fairly choclatey, but then again not many people give it a proper go.
"Fish do get caught on zigs, especially when the tadpoles are around in early summer. Depths average about 4ft to 5ft, with shelves around the islands, pluse a few holes. There's weed in patches, but nowhere is unfishable. The lakebed is all clay or silt.
"There are six islands, so there's always one to target, but fish also get caught in open water and the margins."
Hot swims...
The design of Kingfisher Lake means every swim has an island feature to fish to and these do hold a lot of fish. Peg 12 has the greatest range of depths of all the swims and is very popular due to the amount of options it offers. Peg 15 is also a very popular swim. It faces the prevailing wind and one of the larger islands is just 40 yards out.
