If you are after some of the biggest river fish in the country, the Trent is the place to be. Huge specimen barbel, chub, roach, zander, pike and carp get reported from this astonishing waterway every week. For that reason, it’s a popular river with anglers too. But don’t let a few busy banks put you off staying at one of these awesome locations…

The River Trent is one of the UK's best rivers for fishing.

Greenacres Caravan Park, Tuxton

Located just six miles from the Trent, this camping site is the ideal place to base yourself for trips on the river. The site also boasts a local pond that can be used by guests in between your river outings.

A1 Pits, Newark

With its own exclusive and scenic stretch of the Trent, this complex of six gravel pits is a popular location for anglers. Night fishing is available on both the lakes and river, with parking behind many of the swims. The lakes are stocked with big carp, tench, roach, bream and pike, whilst the stretch of river throws up some huge barbel and bonus carp too. For a stay in a bivvy on the Trent this location has to be near the top.

Glebe Farm Cottages, Gunthorpe

Five converted Victorian self-catering barns provide the accommodation at this scenic location. Anglers can take advantage of 900 meters of superb fishing on a stretch of the Trent, not far from where some of the largest barbel in the entire river reside.

The Coach House, Collingham

Whilst the famous weir pegs, perhaps the most prolific barbel spots in the country, have to be booked miles in advance, the stretch below can be night fished by club members or fished in daylight hours on an easily affordable ticket. If you want the best barbel fishing on offer in the entire country, this is a stretch you have to visit. Anglers can stay at the nearby Coach House B&B, lovely accommodation in a beautiful setting.

Maltkiln Lane, Newark

Book one of the riverside fishing pods and combine your fishing needs with a glamping style experience. Some superb barbel fishing can be had in this area, which also has pegs which can be fished from a bivvy.

Bob's Island

Overlooked by the historic Newark Castle, this fantastic stretch of water can be fished overnight from a bivvy. There’s loads for the angler too, with weirpools, intimate back channels and lots of fish. Good barbel, chub and some big carp have all been caught here in previous seasons. With food and other essentials only a short walk away.
