We say...

Open to members on a season-ticket basis and to day-ticket anglers, Bantons is one of the most popular waters in the region.

There are about 120-130 carp present, with an average size of over 20lb. There are about half a dozen thirties present, so personal bests are regularly broken here.

It's not an easy water but it does produced all year round and big hits can be accumulated if you strike it right.

Bailiff David Barlow says...

"Like Wyre Lake, it's weedier than the Sunnyside lakes. There's a sunken island just off the island and then a plateau of about 6ft to the left of that which can be reached from swims 14 and 15, and that's a very good spot. It can be better to fish just to the edge of it so your line isn't laying over the top of it.

"There are a couple of deep holes down to 20ft, and fish do get caught from them. In the winter, the swim known as Lunar is very popular and it commands a lot of water. Stella, Right Stella and Woody are also all popular swims. If you get it right you can have 12-15 fish in a session.

"In the summer particles seem to work well, and in the winter single hookbaits and zigs. Yellow hookbaits seem to work well."
