James Furness

James is the editor of Angling Times and has worked on the title since starting as a news reporter in 2006. He was also the editor of Angling Times’ former sister publication, Improve Your Coarse Fishing, between 2015 and 2024.

He is a keen carp angler but also enjoys a spot of tench fishing in the spring and perch fishing during the winter and has recently developed an obsession with buying rubber lures.

He was introduced to coarse fishing as a child by his grandad and having grown up reading his copies of the Angling Times, working on the title truly is a dream job for him.

After studying Media and Popular Culture at university he enjoys working within an ever-evolving media landscape and the new opportunities this provides almost as much as getting to write and read about fishing every day!

He is currently targeting a low-stick Cambridgeshire gravel pit and hopes to unravel some of its mysteries in the coming months.

Away from fishing he enjoys getting out and about with his French Bulldog, going to the gym and has reached that age in life where pottering in the garden is classed as good way to spend the weekend.
