There were plenty of experienced anglers on show during the latest match at a top commercial, but it was a school boy that upset the odds to take the win.

The likes of Welsh international Matt Powell and venue boss Dale Jackson were booked on to the event at Birmingham’s Marston Fields Fishery, with Elm and Willow Pools playing host.

As expected after several inches of ice melted in, the fishing was tough, but there must be a winner and on this occasion, it was 13-year-old Jenson Ludgate that triumphed.

Drawn on peg 21 of Elm Pool, the rising star rotated between bomb and maggot feeder to find a few of the elusive carp to finish with 36lb 10oz.

That gave him a decent cushion over the chasing pack, with Dale taking second from peg 4 on Elm with 25lb 1oz, while Preston Innovations backed angler Ash Davies took third with 17lb 15oz from peg 15 on Willow.
