WHILE the Dorset Stour is perhaps best known for its immense chub these days, local angler Paul Potter showed that the river is still capable of producing belting some barbel too, as this 16lb cracker from the famous Throop Fishery proves.

Fishing a 13mm boilie of his own design, and created specifically for use on his local rivers, Paul hooked the fish in a relatively shallow-water swim using a 1ft-long fluorocarbon hooklink and a size 8 hook.

He also used backleads to help pin his line down away from the feeding fish.
