IT’S been a season like no other for Britain’s young anglers, and as we start the new year they’re showing no signs of slowing down.
Leading the way this week is 11-year-old Erin Wilson, from Newport, who banked this 25lb 5oz pike on her very first cast at a local club pool, with the fish smashing her lure mere seconds after she cast out. Her dad, Matt, was amazed by the size of the fish.
“I was gobsmacked, and Erin’s grandad, Vernon, was shaking when he netted it,” he told us. “Of course, Erin was grinning from ear to ear!”

George Gummer, aged 12, also landed a belting pike of 24lb 8oz from a club lake in Kent. His legered mackerel was picked up just as it got dark, with the fish ‘feeling heavy’ from the off.
“When I got it in the net, I was awestruck,” he told us. “It was one if the best days of my life!”
