ON a short evening session for his son’s 6th birthday, Michael Brown and his lad, Olly, landed this immense 30lb 9oz carp while fishing for silvers on the pole.
Fishing the Main Lake at Surrey’s Willinghurst Fishery, Olly had been happily catching silverfish before the float dipped ominously and elastic streamed from the pole tip.
Realising it was a good fish, dad Michael quickly took over, adding another section as the massive fish powered off into the lake.
“We were only using 8-10 elastic and a size 16 hook, but when I saw the fish roll on the surface I knew it was bigger than anything I’d hooked,” said Michael.
“My heart raced as people gathered behind us, but after a few nervy moments, the huge carp was in the net.”
A nearby angler helped weigh the fish, and witnessed by a clapping crowd, the scales spun round to 30lb 9oz.
