Kevin Clark hooked into something far bigger than he'd bargained for on a recent visit to a Welsh syndicate water - a monster 40lb 5oz mirror carp.

Targeting the lake's stocks of tench, as he does every spring, the Korum backed specimen hunter tamed the huge fish on a Korum X-TND 2.25lb test curve rod matched with 10lb Barbel line and a 10lb Smoke Shield hooklink.

"I was fishing maggot in Kombi feeders over a heavily baited area, something the carp quickly showed interest in," Kevin told us.

"The fish is testament to the work that local carp fishing legend Martin Cronin has done here at the Birch syndicate in South Wales."
