Despite waking up feeling ‘rough as hell’ with the flu, Stephen Gibbons ventured out in temperatures of minus 5oC and was rewarded with this fine grayling of 3lb 2oz.
It was caught from a Scottish river, around 650 miles in fact, from Stephen’s home in Norfolk. Having made such an effort to get there, he was keen to fish, despite feeling so unwell!
Undeterred by frozen rod rings, he soon landed a few good ‘twos’ on trotted maggots alongside minimal feed, before connecting with the three- pounder just before 10am at the end of a long trot.
It fought well, his size 16 hook and 4lb fluorocarbon hooklink held firm, and he was soon slipping the net under the impressive fish.
