There has been a revival in anglers targeting crucian carp in recent years, with more and more enjoying the calm and tranquil environment. Mark Dunwell was such an angler who caught a specimen crucian recently in the shape of this 3lb 11oz fish, whilst also catching a 2lb 15oz roach in the same session.

Mark headed to a local venue that he knows holds some good fish, with a break in the weather, he decided to fish an overnight session to capitalise on the favourable conditions.

“I arrived at the lake at dusk and dropped into a swim with marginal cover, I know the fish in this lake enjoy any sort of structure so I always head for these areas," Mark told us.

“I had four fish that night, all over 2lb, plus a 2lb 15oz roach, which was a great fish to catch and just made the session even more memorable."

“Next morning I baited a few marginal spots and went stalking. On my return a crucian rolled over my right-hand margin, so I lowered a Method feeder over the spot.

"The tactics were simple, Korum Method feeders with Sonu Marine Green Groundbait or pellets round the feeder four inch hooklinks size 14 grappler hooks from Korum."

A few minutes later the rod was away to this 3lb 11oz fish. Soon after, I had one of 3lb 9oz from a spot to my left, plus one of 3lb 2oz before the swim died."

"All three crucians broke my previous PB and I never thought in my lifetime I'd beat my PB let alone three times in the same session."
