“I FANCIED having a go for predators, as they were likely one of the only fish to be feeding in the freezing conditions!
“Having checked out a few swims on my local river, I settled into one where a channel runs in.
"My tactic was to floatfish a deadbait, and I cast a frozen roach into a likely-looking area.
"Within 10 minutes the float buried, and I hooked a fish that fought very hard. I suspected it might’ve been a jack pike, but when this big stripey came up, I knew it was a special fish!
“At 4lb, it was a warrior of a perch!”
