Having found a few big roach in a bay off the back of the wind, Aaron Marguet broke out his float fishing gear and was rewarded with this fine specimen weighing 3lb 5oz.
Fishing at an unnamed reservoir, he drip-fed trimmed-down NX Baits boilies, which he could see the fish intercepting on the way down. Having worked out that they werefeeding at around half-depth, Aaron set up a driftbeater float, and soon had a bite.
Once hooked, the fish stripped line and tried to bury itself in weed. But his size 10 held firm and he netted his prize at the third time of trying. Aaron revealed that he’s had a few other big roach from the venue... but none as fat as this one!
"I’ve been trying to catch a 3lb+ roach for the last 10 years or so, but they have eluded me and despite catching some 3lb rudd, I have never been able to catch a roach of the same size," Aaron told us.
"I have joined several known syndicates and club waters like Highbridge up in Norfolk to try and achieve my goal, and was fortunate enough to catch one weighing 3.4 pounds from a local reservoir, which was caught on the float."
"This fish was from a different location, a stillwater in the South East that I knew contained a few special roach."
"I also caught it on a float, which has got to be the best way to catch a big roach and possibly the hardest way too, I may add!"
"I have gone 10 years dreaming of a 3lb roach, and as luck would have it, I have caught two within the space of six months. Fishing is funny sometimes," Aaron concluded.
