(THIS CATCH WAS REPORTED BEFORE THE END OF THE RIVER SEASON ON MARCH 15TH)

After enduring a difficult winter, Steve Wilkinson’s persistence paid off in spectacular style with this 8lb 9oz chub.

He took it from the River Kennet on a piece of link-legered breadflake, fished alongside liquidised feed.

After baiting a few swims and fishing them in rotation, using touch-leger tactics, Steve felt a few rattles across his finger before his rod hooped over.

He connected with a fish that fought well in the current, trying to take him into every possible snag.

Once in the net, he knew it was bigger than anything else he’d landed, feeling ‘total disbelief’ when he saw what it weighed.
