(THIS CATCH WAS REPORTED BEFORE THE END OF THE RIVER SEASON ON MARCH 15TH)

As a doorman by trade, it takes a lot to put Phil Taylor on edge, but this 3lb 4oz roach had him shaking so much he had to call a friend to take the pictures!

The Lincolnshire angler had the fish from the upper reaches of a Midlands chalk streamwhere he had stumbled across a small number of large redfins several years back.

With the river fining down at the end of the season, he presented a chunk of quiver-tipped breadflake over liquidised feed.

“After a couple of 10oz roach I hooked the big one, which I initially thought was a chub,” he told us.

“When it surfaced my heart was in my mouth. It was the biggest roach I’ve ever seen or am likely to see. I had to phone my friend Nick to weigh it and take the pictures – I was shaking so much!”
