Demanding serious pulling power, you might imagine catfish angling was a young man’s game. Unless your name is John Coates, that is.
At the age of 95, the lifelong angler from Christchurch, Dorset, banked a superb PB catfish of 29lb 6oz while holidaying at Anglers Paradise in Devon. He was fishing on Octopussy Lake when he landed the moggy, his biggest-ever fish, after a fierce battle in broad daylight.
“We are so proud of John, who has been visiting with his family for more than 10 years now,” said venue host Zenia Drury-Gregorek. “He’s not only still got it, but is hauling in monsters. John is an inspiration to us all, and shows that fishing is truly a sport for all ages. What a legend!”
