We will soon be entering a ‘new era for fishing’, according to the Angling Trust, which aims to make a ‘meaningful change’ to sewage pollution and increase angling participation by 2028.

The bold objectives are part of its newly-launched Fishing for Good plan which, if achieved, will leave our sport and the environment it relies upon in a strong place for generations to come.

Other aims include protecting the legal right to go fishing, increasing recognition of the benefits the sport brings to both the environment and mental wellbeing, and supporting efforts to combat illegal fishing and fish theft.

Jamie Cook, Angling Trust CEO, said: “We face threats, as do the environments we depend upon and the fish we dream about. The community requires a voice on big issues, and our collective scale is not reflected in our level of influence as anglers – Fishing for Good seeks to change that.

"It’s designed to provide clarity of the role and priorities of the Trust and how we are focused on delivering and supporting growth, representation, and visibility at all levels.

“This plan lays out how, by working together, anglers, clubs, fisheries, coaches, volunteers, partners and investors can collaborate and deliver greater impact.”

The Trust has big plans to take fishing forward
