The annual Zandermania competition had another very successful 2024 despite horrendous weather conditions.
The lure-only competition saw 130 anglers take to Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire, consisting of 50 boat teams of two and 30 kayak anglers, all competing to be crowned champions in their respective fields. The format over two days is for the anglers to fill their card with six Zander, upgrading throughout if and when they catch larger fish. All fish are measured rather than weighed before being returned to the water.
"The weather was not ideal on the first day, with the wind speeds making the competition very difficult, particularly for the kayaks. However, these are the best of the best from the UK, making for a very exciting competition," organisers told us.
"At the end of the first day, the competitors gathered for the annual Rolling Roads BBQ, which, as always, was fantastic. It gave the anglers time to catch up with friends, rest, and recuperate, ready to battle it out on the second day."

Thankfully weather conditions on the second day of the competition were much improved and as such, anglers had a very successful day on the water landing multiple zander, with the majority of the teams recording multiple captures.
"Over 140m of zander were caught over the two days, with the largest fish being caught by our Kayak team champions David Jacobs and Justin Hitchcock who managed a zander of 86cm."
"We would like to congratulate our Boat Team Champions Konrad Pukszta and Artur Zietkowski, who walked away with. cheque for £1440 and lots of prizes from our sponsors: Ursuit, Reuben Heaton, Eagle Claw Europe, Flambeau, Railblaza, On Top Angling and Navionics UK," they said.
