There was a familiar face at the top of the weigh sheet during one of the biggest open matches held this year.

A giant field of 123 anglers were spread over 11 lakes at Cheshire’s prolific Partridge Lakes, with several stars getting involved in the annual festive event.

Current Maver Match This champion Andy Bennett was always going to be tough to beat from any swim and when he drew a fancied area in the shape of peg 60 on Covey Canal Three, his odds became even shorter.

It was a good draw for Andy Bennett.

After five hours of action, he was announced as the winner, with 81lb of F1s going into his keepnets. Rotating several pole lines while working with maggots and pellets worked a treat and helped him land 46 fish and the £330 top prize.

Second placed Paul Coyle bagged 68lb 12oz from peg two on Spey, with Colin Scott’s 66lb haul from peg 95 on Covey Canal Four enough for third.
