The River Lea has been in great form for big barbel, and Andrew Tredgett is the latest to get in on the action with this 16lb 7oz personal best.

He took it from the iconic Kings Weir Fishery, and it continues a great start to the season, as he’s already landed a
10lb 10oz bream from the stretch.

Andrew targeted a spot in the centre of the weir where he introduced a bed of hemp, pellets and squid boilies with a bait dropper. He then rested the swim for an hour before casting out his 14mm dumbell boilie. Andrew received a few bangs on the rod-tip, before his centrepin reel screamed into life as the fish tore off in the flow.

It was eventually netted after a ‘tricky’ battle under the rod-tip.
