Big chub landed from tiny stream

As we near the end of another season on our beloved rivers, we can reflect on what has been a memorable season for chub captures. While the bigger rivers like the Trent and Thames have produced some real whackers over the 8lb bracket, what has been equally as impressive is how some of the smaller streams and rivers we don't expect to see big chub from have contributed some incredible fish too.

However, the season is not over yet and we are seeing lots of reports coming in, with anglers making the most of good conditions leading upto the final week of fishing until angling resumes on June 16th.

Over the last few months George Webster has become obsessed with the chub on his local River Slea. It’s a tiny waterway in the East Midlands that holds a shoal of good fish, which he can often see in summer.

However, come winter, locating them becomes a big challenge, but one that he’s become fully immersed in. On a recent cold and overcast morning, George’s enthusiasm was rewarded with this superb new personal best of 7lb 2oz. It was caught on link legered cheesepaste and gave a few taps on the quivertip before pulling it around confidently.
