Since October, Zach Cooper has been trying to catch a truly big perch, and after landing a string of two- and three- pounders, he finally achieved his goal with this 4lb 7oz specimen.
It was caught from a southern canal where he’d arrived early in the afternoon. The sun was still high in the sky, though, and he didn’t particularly fancy his chances.
However, as dusk drew in, a few clouds rolled over, and his small bobber float, beneath which a livebait was suspended, began to slide away.
Zach hit into what he instantly knew was a good fish, and after a tense few minutes of heavy headshakes, he had his prize safely on the bank.
The perch was nicked lightly in the top lip, but thankfully his size 8 Gardner Target Barbel Hook held firm.
