Mark Hewitt got his predator fishing season off to an incredible start when he landed this superb 30lb 7oz pike from the Hampshire Avon.

Trotting a crease on the southern river with a small livebait, he was shocked when the float sailed away on his first run down, proving once again that location is everything when it comes to catching big pike.

"I hooked a fish that felt heavy from the off and, after it made several savage runs, I knew for sure that it was a big fish... but not quite as big as it turned out to be!" he told us.
