Fishing for big fish can be a waiting game, as larger specimens are usually much wiser than their smaller, younger counterparts, often fully aware they’re being targeted.
While we occasionally get lucky and catch the fish we’re after quickly, it usually takes patience, a bit of luck, and a great deal of experience to fool them into taking the hookbait. Andy Waters has landed some incredible fish in past seasons and is all too aware of the time and effort it often takes to bank specimen fish. Recently, he was reminded of this and after a run of seven blank sessions, everything finally came together as he managed to land a superb brace of bream weighing over 30lb!
IF YOU WANT TO CATCH A BIG BREAM, THESE VENUES WILL GIVE YOU A GREAT CHANCE!

“My bream campaign has finally come good! After six blank night sessions, the first one I caught was the one I was after, in a lake where they mostly seem to top out around 13lb,” Andy told us.
“I knew there were a couple of special ones, though, and heavy baiting along with careful swim selection helped me catch one.”
“I fished three rods tight over a big bed of 3mm and 4mm halibut pellets, Complex-T boilies, sweetcorn, and Marine Halibut method mix.”
“My rigs were fished helicopter-style on a Korda Safe Zone leader, with a 15lb coated braid hooklength and a size 8 ESP Cryogen Claw-Hammer hook. On the hair, I had a 15mm Complex-T boilie balanced with a piece of popup corn.”
“At 2am on my seventh night of the year, thebobbin slowly tightened up and then dropped back, it was great to finally hear them come to life!"
"It was a typical bream fight, but I was shocked at its impressive size as it glided safely into my landing net—it smashed my previous personal best by just under 2lb, weighing 15lb 7oz. Needless to say, I was over the moon.”
