A 48-year-old angler from Colchester has landed one of the biggest mirror carp swimming in Spain's River Ebro - a fishing weighing a whopping 76lb 14oz!

A truly enormous River Ebro carp

Darren Davies was on a guided trip with coach Nick Shattock (Ebro Carp & Catfish Tours) on the Riba-Roja stretch of the river when the huge specimen took his bait.

Incredibly, the fish was just one of over 60 carp the pair banked in the session, which included some 15 thirties and three forties. The huge mirror was in a totally different league, however, as guide Nick told us...

"The fight was heart-wrenching, as it ripped off line in the early stages," he said.

"It gave Darren some serious arm-ache and when we first saw it the nerves really kicked in.

"I have known about this fish since I saw it off Mequinenza Bridge around seven years ago.

"Somehow it has swam 25km from there and through Riba Dam, it was caught two years back by a Spanish local, so we know all about its adventure."
