An eel, banked at 11lb 3oz by species expert Steve Ricketts, has been confirmed as the new official record by the British Record Fish Committee.
The enormous specimen has sent the angling world into meltdown, with the fish beating a record that has stood for over 45 years by 1oz.
The news was broken by National Anguilla Club and in a post on Facebook, they said: “Club member Steve Ricketts landed an eel measuring 47 inches by 12 inches. It was witnessed by several people, including NAC records officer, Tony Kellner, and weighed on three sets of scales, all of which registered a weight higher than Steve Terry’s current and long-standing record of 11lb 2oz.”
Angling Times has sealed an exclusive report after speaking to Steve about the monumental capture which will be printed in the issue hitting the shelves on June 18. A huge congratulations goes out to Steve from all the team at Angling Times.
