A very memorable capture for Dan Storey with his 246lb leviathan

The Carlisle angler, who was fishing with Peter Irwin of Monster Catfish Tours on the River Segra, hooked the brute just an hour after casting out.

“I’d picked up Dan and the rest of the group from Barcelona Airport and they wanted to get fishing right away,” Peter said.

“It wasn’t long before one of the rods ripped off and we could hardly get it out of the stand–a sure sign of a big ‘swamp donkey’.

“After an epic battle, we knew it was big, but not this big! The fish measured 2.5m long and is the largest I’ve had my hands on from this river in the 25 years I’ve fished it,” Peter added.
