On a trip to a Shropshire stillwater carp angler Graham Child landed this impressive 4lb 7oz crucian – a fish just 5oz off the current British Record.

Graham, a 57-year-old scaffolder from Leeds, had enjoyed a brilliant seven-day trip at Rob Hales’ Weston Park Fishery. He’d had plenty of action from his target species when he was surprised by the quality crucian mid-session.

“Over the trip, I caught 13 carp to 35lb, but in the middle of the week I caught this surprise crucian,” he told us.

“It fell to a small RH Baits pop-up fished over a bed of hemp and corn. The week had been very wet, due to storm Babet!”
