A carp angler fishing West Yorkshire's Ladywood Lakes has caught one of the biggest eels of the season, a fish estimated to weigh nearly 10lb.
Unaware of the true significance of the rare fish he had caught, the captor let fishery manager Gus Thresh hold the impressive specimen up for the cameras, in a shot that left the venue's Facebook followers in awe.

It's not the first time the 10-acre Big Lake has produced big eels either, as Gus confirmed...
"I’ve photographed big eels on Ladywood before around 8lb, so it’s not uncommon, they are present in the lake," he told us.
"We are close to a river, so they obviously travel it, the water quality must be spot on too as it’s a sand and gravel pit."

Being predominantly a carp water, few anglers have targeted the eels in the lake, something that is permitted if done within the rules.
"Anglers can fish for them but must follow our rules on line strength and hooking equipment, with session times pre booked," Gus says.
