Spring can be a great time to be out on the bank carp fishing, with temperatures rising and longer daylight hours, the carp begin to wake up and often throw caution to the wind in search if food. With changeable weather conditions it is not always easy, but for those that put the effort in and change their tactics to suit are often rewarded with some mega carp, at their biggest weights too!

David Gaskin has had some incredible success recently on his syndicate. After landing a fish known as 'Shoulders' last week, he went one better during his most recent session by breaking the venue record with a 51lb 6oz mirror.

"Arriving at the lake, the light was fading so I had a quick look round with and it became evident that the warmer day temperatures had encouraged the carp to congregate in the upper layers.," David told us.

"There were enough subtle signs to make it clear that there were a few carp in the area."

"With temperatures still cooling significantly during the night I hedged my bets and fished two rods on the deck and one on a zig."

Later that evening, a fish rolled about 20 yards out and appeared to have been feeding, so David reeled in the zig rod and switched to a bottom presentation, repositioning it where he saw the fish show.

"With a firm enough thud on the lead I was confident the rig was presented and given the short range it was easy enough to catapult a few manilla freebies around it."

"The simple tactic worked as I had the work alarm traded for a Delkim hitting the high note."

"After a dogged fight the big angry mirror was in the net and after inspecting each flank I recognised it to be the king of the pond at an all time high of 51lb 6oz and new lake record."
