TARGETING the edge of a small gravel hump surrounded by deeper water produced this new personal best bream of 17lb 12oz for Lee McManus.

The 46-year-old builder from Birstall, near Leicester, was on a two night-session at a Midlands gravel pit and paired the big fish with another weighing 14lb 4oz after receiving two bites just before first light on the final morning of his trip.

Both bream fell to double sweetcorn hookbaits, hair-rigged to the back of size 7 hooks and 15lb coated braid hooklinks, presented on lead clip rigs at 70 yards to the prominent feature.

He fished these over a scattering of casters, corn, groundbait and pellets, and the bigger of the brace beats his previous best for the species by 5oz.
