Dan Eaves banked this massive 5lb 2oz perch during a lure fishing session on a southern stillwater, using a 6ins shad pattern.
“I worked my way round to the north-west bank, where plenty of grebes were diving,” he told us.
“I had a good feeling a perch might make an appearance, and after about an hour of casting, I felt a huge ‘thud’ on the line.
“I felt sure it was a pike, so when the fish surfaced and I saw it was a perch, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was equally gobsmacked when the scales spun round to just over 5lb!”
