Dream bream caught after years of angling

A lifelong ambition to catch a massive bream was achieved on a recent session when Zenon Bojko slipped the net under one of the biggest bream of the season at 18lb 3oz.

With the weather looking rough, and lots of wind and rain forecast, Zen decided to target a series of gravel pits close to his home which have produced some great fish in the past for him, including a 12lb tench. With many of the bream being caught at range to carp anglers, he was concerned the fish may be out of his reach but that didn't put him off trying.

"I’m too old for all that long-range casting now; 60 yards is as far as I can cast, or even worse... spomb," he told us.

"I opted to fish just 40 yds out, spodding a few mixed particles including A8 pellets mixed with flaked maize, with a healthy addition of pineapple Smart liquid for some added attraction."

Despite the lake not fishing well and the outlook less than promising, it didn't take long for Zen to get his first bite of the session.

" At around 11.30, the old indicator started to move up and down, thinking it might be a roach I gifted into it but was met with some resistance," he said.

"A short battle ensued as I scooped the net under a mint condition bream of 15lbs 8oz, a fantastic start to the session!"

Whilst this fish was huge by many angler standards, it wasn't the dream fish that Zen had set his sights on.

"Over the years targeting big bream I’ve had a fair few biggies, quite a few 17’s, but my dream was an 18lb fish," he said.

"The following morning I didn’t really know what to do for the best as no more indications followed that bream, but I decided to put some more bait out in the hope of drawing another fish in."

"The next morning my prayers were answered when another timid bite resulted in the fish I had been chasing for so long, a fantastic 18lb 3oz bream."
