EA gives anglers pink salmon warning

The Environment Agency has urged anglers to report any catches or sightings of invasive pink salmon.

The fish, which originate in the northern Pacific, have begun appearing in the UK in recent years, and are likely to return again this summer.

They can cause displacement and disruption to the spawning of several native species, including our own wild Atlantic salmon.

“The public must understand the risk pink salmon pose, and report all sightings and captures to the EA,” said Simon Toms of the National Fisheries Team.

“They have large black oval spots on their tail, and much smaller scales than the Atlantic salmon.”
