Enormous roach caught whilst filming

Whilst shooting a bream feature, match angler Sam Brown was blown away when he slipped the net under this unexpected 3lb 2oz roach.

Best known as a match angler, having won the £50k Maver Match This final in 2022, Sam was out testing some new Dynamite Baits groundbait on a midlands gravel pit, fishing the Method feeder with a yellow 7mm Washter hookbait.

“The first two bites of the day were classic bream pull rounds, resulting in fish over 6lb,” he told us.

“But the next was more delicate, with the tip tapping away. I lifted into what I thought was a small bream, but when a huge roach surfaced, I shouted over to Ian, the cameraman. We were both blown away by it."

“The water is a carp syndicate and I didn’t know there were big roach in here. I’ll definitely return and have a proper go for them,” Sam concluded.
