Father and son catch giant catfish bigger than themselves

It is not very often you can go coarse fishing in the UK and have the chance of landing a fish bigger than you, but Barry Bond and his son Finley consistently catch enormous catfish, showcasing just how good this branch of the sport can be.

Due to their sheer size and increasing availability on day ticket venues, fishing for catfish is becoming increasingly popular and if you haven't given it a go yet, you should consider doing so, as these fish pull harder than anything else you will have caught in our lakes and rivers before.

One such venue is Fishable Houchins, where Barry and Finley attend regularly often catching some of the huge cats that reside there. On their most recent visit Finley landed a monstrous 101lb catfish that was almost twice his size, with dad Barry banking a 131lb fish the session before.

"After having a few kittens on livebaits, we decided to change to meat over very small bed of pellets straight away started getting into the better fish," Barry explained

"Using very simple D-rig on 70lb Cat Pro catlink sp 5/0 hooks. With a running lead fishing couple of rod lengths out on 5lb Cat Pro Persuader rods."

"Our first over night produced a couple 50lb plus catfish and a 90lber, which showed the tactics were starting to work."

"A couple of days later I managed to land a 70lb and a new PB that weighed 131lb, it was absolutely massive," he recalled

"On our last session Finley had his first cat of season at 101lb, he is also a member of Catfish Pro and won junior cat fisherman of the year and biggest catfish aswell, he just loves fishing for them!"
