Daniel Johnson showed the value of being in the right place at the right time by landing this 30lb 3oz pike – after spending just an hour on the bank!

It’s his first-ever ‘thirty’, and came from a Lincolnshire gravel pit he was fishing with his seven-year-old son, Alfie.

“I’d cast out a lamprey head section and it didn’t take long for the float on my left-hand rod to start bobbing,” Daniel told us.

“When the fish surfaced, I knew right away it could be a new PB.”

The pike made a final dash for the reeds before Daniel netted it and, with shaking hands, weighed the giant.

“Alfie wanted a photo with it to show just how big the fish was – it was an incredible sight for us both to witness,” he added.
