When anglers think of match venues, they often associate them with snake-lake-style venues that are uniform in design and primarily suited for pole fishing. However, other venues are vastly different from this scenario, such as stillwaters like Boddington Reservoir, presenting anglers with a completely different challenge.
With the additional water, an abundance of bait, and less competition for food, it's no surprise that these venues are now producing carp of specimen sizes—fish that even anglers spending 24 hours behind rods would be delighted to see on their mats.
Valentin Popescu is one such angler who discovered just how big these fish are getting when he landed a fantastic 27lb carp on a feeder typically used for catching carp in the 3-6lb range.
“I had a great session at Boddington Reservoir last week, where I caught 10 carp. This was the biggest one, weighing 27lb!"
“There are lots of good fish in the reservoir, but a specimen this big is rare for the venue."
"Feeder tactics produced the goods, with a 45g Hybrid with micro pellets around it, and a sinking wafter hookbait.”
