Aaron Grant couldn't have asked for a better first chub than this awesome 7lb 2oz specimen he landed from a stretch of the River Thames recently.

Fishing with his grandad, Aaron decided to rotate between three swims, having read that roving was a good tactic for the species.

On his return to his first baited spot, it didn't take long for the rod tip to hoop round...

"I hooked a fish that pulled line from the clutch. I thought it was a barbel, but was so pleased when I saw I’d hooked my first chub," he said.

"It kept diving underneath the net, but after a couple of attempts I managed to land it.

The superb fish fell to a cork ball wrapped in fishmeal paste. That's a PB that might take a while to beat!
