First zander session produces a cracker!

LEE McManus has continued his fantastic run of form this season by catching this 16lb 6oz zander from the River Trent.

While perhaps more famous for its stocks of giant barbel, the Midlands waterway has also been producing some stunning predator sport over recent seasons, and many believe it’s only a matter of time before it produces a new British record zander.

Seasoned specimen-hunter Lee, from Leicester, banked the fish on his very first session targeting the species. After locating a depression in the riverbed close to the near bank, he cast a free-running leger rig with half a roach as hookbait over the top, and connected with the 16-pounder after first landing a few smaller fish.
