Football legends share dream fishing trip on the River Wye

Former Arsenal and England star Paul Merson got his first taste of fishing last week by heading to the banks of the beautiful River Wye with fellow footballing legend and keen lifelong angler, David Seaman.

The pair were making a film for Fishing Republic to help celebrate National Fishing Month, and the day turned out to be packed with plenty of laughs and some excellent sport from barbel and chub.

“It was great to get Paul out on the river today, to show him the ways and talk about our times on the pitch together,” said David.

It seems the feel of fighting his first fish left a lasting impression on the former midfield maestro: “I absolutely loved it – the buzz of getting a bite and bringing it in. I’d need my gillie, David, to help me with a couple of things, but I’ll definitely be going again”.
