THE Take a Friend Fishing (TAFF) scheme is returning over the festive season, so you can register for a free one-day rod licence to take someone you know along for a day’s angling.

Run between December 17 and January 2, the joint Angling Trust, Environment Agency and Angling Trades Association campaign hopes to build on the 6,000 people who’ve taken part over the past two years.

TAFF usually takes place in the warmer months, but organisers hope that the new winter initiative will show that the benefits of fishing extend well beyond the hazy days of summer.

“Angling is a sport to be enjoyed all year round, so we’re delighted to see it’s back for winter,” said Heidi Stone, EA Fisheries Partnerships Manager.
