Giant commercial fishery match goes down to the wire

One of the biggest team match fishing events on the calendar went down to the wire as three squads scored equal points.

Lincolnshire’s Lindholme Lakes played host to the Angling Trust Commercial National, with 20 teams of 10 battling it out for the coveted title.

At the end of a nail biting five hours of action it was revealed that Drennan Barnsley Blacks, Lindholme Avengers and Team UK had all tied on 38 points. A mixture of pole fishing, waggler fishing and feeder fishing tactics all featured in the armoury of the top teams.

It was then down to accumulative weight to decide who took gold and it was the latter that triumphed, with their squad that included the likes of Matt Pillay and Tom Scholey finishing with 265kg to bag the trophy and £2,500 cheque. That pushed Barnsley’s 227kg effort into second, with the Avengers taking the final framing place with 198kg.

Top individual weight on the day went to Mosella Quaker team member Rob Harbour who tipped just over 103kg on to the scales from peg 35 on Loco Lake.
