It has been a fantastic year for big dace captures so far this season and with these fish still a few months away from reaching their peak weights, could this be the season we see a new British Record?
One angler who came very close to setting a new record is Matt Adams. While fishing a stretch of the Dorset Stour, he managed to land an enormous dace weighing 1lb 3oz—just 2oz shy of the current record for the species.

"With conditions looking good, I decided to fish a little spot I know on the Dorset Stour that has form for big roach and dace," Matt divulged.
"I setup two rods, a waggler and a stick float, to allow me to present my bait perfectly should the flow start to change."
"After spraying maggot into the swim, I had a bite on my third run through on the 2 gram waggler, and at first I thought it was a big roach," he recalled.
"However, after a couple of minutes of dogged fighting, I managed to subdue the biggest dace I have ever seen into my landing net."
"With shaking hands I slipped the fish into my trusty carrier bag and hung her from my carefully zeroed scales where she swung the needle round to a massive 1lb 3oz."
"Seems a few rivers are showing the potential for a new record, I for one being lucky enough to catch 1lb+ dace from three different southern rivers, with the Dorset Stour being one of them," Mark informed us.
