Giant brace of minnows could be the biggest-ever caught!

It is always great to see big fish, and while some specimens might not grab the attention like others do, they are all specimens in their own right and deserve to be celebrated. Marc Durose is one such angler who managed to catch some of the micro-species that live in our waterways, and while they may seem small they are far from it, being potentially the largest ever brace of minnows landed.

Fishing on a small private pond, Marc’s brace weighed in at 21g and 24g. When you consider that the British record for a minnow—set in 1998—stands at exactly 24g, matching Marc’s heaviest, you begin to appreciate just how ‘giant’ these little fish really were!

The first of the giant brace

"It was a day that didn’t suit me for serious angling, bright, cloudless, with a sun so high and hot it flattened the water into glass. But where others packed up or sulked into shade, I had other plans. This was minnow weather and not for the faint-hearted," Marc told us.

"Armed with a tiny pole float, a length of 0.8lb fluorocarbon, size 26 hook and a single red maggot, I set out on a mission, to hunt the large minnows I knew the lake held."

"Over the course of the day I caught many minnows, but the largest two fish measured 10cm, another a near-mythical 11."

"Ive always been fond of the ways minnows looked, they are breathtaking little fish, and to catch two of them in the same session as big as these, will make it a memorable one," he concluded.
