A netting operation to uncover the true size of the roach in a small commercial lake has produced a jaw dropping result.

Birmingham’s Alvechurch Fisheries is home to four lakes, with the one-acre House Pool showing its big redfin potential on numerous occasions this winter.

Fish to 2lb have been banked and verified, but venue staff were still unsure as to how many fish they had at that size.

A shock specimen roach was found during a commercial fishery netting operation at Alvechurch Fisheries.

The nets were run through to get solid answers, with several 2lb plus roach weighed and put back in the lake.

But it was an enormous specimen that was substantially bigger than the rest that caused the biggest shock, with the stunning roach tipping the dial on the scales round to 3lb 3oz.

Big perch to over 2lb and bream over the 8lb mark were also found during the process.

Day tickets are priced at £10 for one rod and £12 for two, and you can find out more details on the complex by visiting www.alvechurchfisheries.co.uk
